21 February 2025

From 1 August 2021, Indonesian customs have announced additional requirements for both businesses and consumers sending to Indonesia. Further requirements were introduced and came into effect on 1 January 2025.

Additional customs requirements

Customs declaration forms must include the corresponding 16 digit ID number (NIK) or tax identification number (NPWP) of the Indonesian resident. Business customers also need to include the business or corporate addresses, and relevant tax ID information.  For private addresses, if the NIK or NPWP is not available, please use one of the following alternatives:

  • Passport number (for foreigners), or
  • Other identification number – for example, driver's licence number.

When sending with Australia Post, you should capture this information in the Importers Reference Number field when purchasing your postage online, or lodging over the counter.

Always ensure your customs declaration includes the information required by the destination customs authority. Your item may be delayed and the recipient may be responsible for additional payments if this information is not supplied.
