Pre-arrival clearance for EU-bound items

Customs information for items being sent to countries in the EU now needs to be sent electronically to the destination country before items arrive. From 1 October 2021, a new pre-arrival security and safety program is in place to assist businesses sending to the EU. The program is supported by ICS2, an advance cargo information system.

All customers must ensure they are providing the relevant information to the destination customs authorities prior to the item arriving overseas.

If you are currently sending your international goods via one of our digital sending platforms, you are already providing the required Electronic Advance Data (EAD). You must include the required detail when creating your label with Australia Post. This information will be shared with the customs authority.

An increasing number of countries have changed regulations for sending international parcels and express letters, and now require Electronic Advance Data (EAD) to be sent to destination customs authorities electronically before items arrive overseas. Sending your goods manually does not allow you to enter required information at the time your consignment is created. Therefore, the data cannot be sent directly to the destination customs authority.

If you want to send your goods manually, you’ll need to complete the customs form – either online or by-hand – prior to lodging over the counter in store.

Not providing the relevant customs information can result in delays or returns. Please ensure your customs information includes an accurate and detailed description of the goods, and accurate sender and receiver details. For eCommerce items, please provide the correct HS tariff code.

To ensure data is captured electronically, we encourage business customers to use an online platform e.g. My Post Business or Parcel Send to pay for postage and complete their customs data online.

We also encourage you to use the online customs form to prepopulate the data and present the QR code or use a manual customs form prior to lodging items over the counter. You can refer to the declaration guide for support.

For business customers, we suggest you set up a free MyPost Business account. This will allow you to enter the required information at the time your consignment is created and send EAD directly to the destination customs authority. You can register for MyPost Business, or with the team at your local Post Office.
